Hall Ambulance Response to Shafter Train Incident

On August 6th, 2010 at 3:56pm, paramedics from Hall Ambulance Service responded with other emergency agencies including the California Highway Patrol, Kern County Fire Department, and the Shafter Police Department; to a reported Amtrak train versus semi-truck accident in the Shafter area. The incident location was just north of Lerdo Highway on Central Valley Highway.

Moments after being dispatched, the first paramedic ambulance arrived at the scene. After being advised that the truck driver was not injured, the medics began the arduous task of evaluating the more than 200 passengers on the train.

Resources responded by Hall Ambulance Service included eleven ambulances along with two field supervisors and one administrator.

A total of 19 patients were taken to 6 Bakersfield area hospitals as follows:

  • Mercy Hospital Southwest – 8
  • Bakersfield Heart Hospital – 3
  • Greater Bakersfield Memorial Hospital – 2
  • Mercy Hospital – 2
  • San Joaquin Community Hospital – 2
  • Kern Medical Center – 2
